Ouch my head hurt, but my hair got retwisted

Well as you can see from above I finally retwisted my locks! Thank the Lord that it is finally over and I can go on beautifully for the next 3-4 weeks before I have to start thinking about this all over again. Don't get me wrong, while it may seem like I am complaining, I'm not, it's just that retwist time is the worse time for me because I don't like sitting still to retwist, my arms hurt, and then there is the dang dryer time. However the latter has just been almost eradicated with my new retwist/retightening regime. What I dont have pictures of, is the back of my locks which were latched! My bff retightened the back and mid top using the latch tool. There are pro's and con's to it in my opinion, and since this is my blog my opinion would matter. LOL!

Anyway, let's start with the pro's.

  • I can get my hair wet and wash whenever I want
  • No worry of unraveling
  • Smaller thinner locks feel more secure with the latch
  • Dont have to sit under the dryer

Now for the con's

  • Man that ish hurts when pulling locks with a fat end thru!
  • Is hard for me to do the latch on my locks right now
  • The fact that I love the look of the coil to the look of the latch
  • The fuzz that is still on the locks from not palm rolling

So to get the best of both worlds, I decided to continue to palm roll the front, top and front-sides of my hair and to latch the back and mid top, that way I can still get it wet without having to worry about retwisting my whole head since it only takes me about 20 minutes to palm roll the front.

I am very happy with the results, except for the small ache in my scalp from the latching. Some people will probably say that they are too tight and some probably are since she likes to "see scalp" as she says. I have my Knappy Scents that I have been spraying on my locks and scalp and it feels so good on those tight locks. But I prefer it be tighter than loose, that way I know it'll be neater longer.

Palm rolling the front! I should have thought of that!!! I recently switched to latching too,and although I LOVE the convenience of it (I now wash once a week!!) I do miss the look of freshly palm rolled hair. Your hair looks great!!! I'm a little jealous!

LOL!!! Thank you so much. I love your red! It's on fire sistah! Yea, you may want to go back to palm rolling the front if you like that neat look, like I do, that way if you have to retwist it, it's just a small section compared to the whole head and I can use my handheld dryer.

What started this journey...

My journey started on June 16, 2005 on what will always be known as the worst hair day of my knatural borne life and the day I made the best decision of my life. My 3 year old afro was not acting right and wasn't showing any signs of acting right soon. I brushed, plaited, twisted, oiled, washed, wrapped up and puffed, but all to no avail, when my BSF said the words I'll never forget. "Why don't we just lock up? I mean, you've been talking about it, and if you do it then I'll do it with you." Priceless words. Well, once we decided that we immediately went online, did our research and figured out how we were going to start them and with what product. I started my 4-5in. locks with two strand twist, using ORS lock and twist gel. You can view my journey at http://www.fotki.com/TheCurlyOne/ and see photos from before I started locking up until a few months ago. My regime has stayed pretty consistant over the years and that requires me to do a retwist every 3 to 4 weeks. I'll do a touch up on the front locks if I want to go an extra week without doing a full retwist. I'm currently palmrolling but I am research the nappy locs too to see how latching feels for me. I'd like to latch the back and continue to palm roll the front because I love the coiled retwist look that you don't get from the latch method. I'm coming upon my 3 year lockaversary and I want to do something special to my locks. A straw or roller set using pipe cleaners will probably be the next style that I attempt. I have everything I need I just have to actually sit down and do it.
