Introducing Knappy Soul Kreations

Like alot of us with locs I've been searching high and low to find me some loc jewelry and adornments to further express my individualism and to dress up my locs, all to no avail. I've located 3 sites online that sell loc jewelry and adornments, but they are either not my type or too expensive for just one piece. Also I'd like to be able to see and touch the loc jewelry before I purchase it, to try things on to see how they look, feel the energy of things, you know touch and feel the adornments so buying them online really wasn't an appealing option to someone like me. So all that was left for me to do was to learn how to make them myself. That way I can use colors, styles and materials that I like. And what was funny to me is that I realized that I had a dream of creating my own hair jewelry years ago when I first started loc'ing but I got distracted by adjusting to my new hair and forgot all about my dream, that is until I got my hair situated and now that I'm looking for new ways to decorate my locs I rememberd my long lost dream of creating my own pieces. So now here I am full circle again, learning to do something that I've wanted to do for a long time. At first it was seemed to be a very daunting task because I had no idea where to start or how to go about things. I asked a few people for pointers but I found out that some people are really selfish with sharing knowledge, but it didnt stop or break me, all it did was make me want to create my own pieces that much more! After my sister found me a wonderful book on jewelry making everything else fell into place perfectly. I've created my first pieces so far and I'd like to share them. Let me know what you think about! Now introducting Knappy Soul Kreations!!

I just discovered your blog and I really like your loc jewelry.

What started this journey...

My journey started on June 16, 2005 on what will always be known as the worst hair day of my knatural borne life and the day I made the best decision of my life. My 3 year old afro was not acting right and wasn't showing any signs of acting right soon. I brushed, plaited, twisted, oiled, washed, wrapped up and puffed, but all to no avail, when my BSF said the words I'll never forget. "Why don't we just lock up? I mean, you've been talking about it, and if you do it then I'll do it with you." Priceless words. Well, once we decided that we immediately went online, did our research and figured out how we were going to start them and with what product. I started my 4-5in. locks with two strand twist, using ORS lock and twist gel. You can view my journey at http://www.fotki.com/TheCurlyOne/ and see photos from before I started locking up until a few months ago. My regime has stayed pretty consistant over the years and that requires me to do a retwist every 3 to 4 weeks. I'll do a touch up on the front locks if I want to go an extra week without doing a full retwist. I'm currently palmrolling but I am research the nappy locs too to see how latching feels for me. I'd like to latch the back and continue to palm roll the front because I love the coiled retwist look that you don't get from the latch method. I'm coming upon my 3 year lockaversary and I want to do something special to my locks. A straw or roller set using pipe cleaners will probably be the next style that I attempt. I have everything I need I just have to actually sit down and do it.
